How I made a dragon model

In December, having worked with clay at university, I decided to try and make a dragon.
Knowing how brittle clay can be, I decided a laying-down dragon would be the "safest".

Here is my first sketch in pencil...

Next I moved to the computer and, using a graphics tablet, I drew this sketch...

To which I added wings and coloured...

Eventually I decided the wings would be very fragile, and possibly need wire. I've only just started working in clay so I thought I'd leave that for another time.
Anyway, this is my first dragon...

I made it using Plastiroc. It's a clay you can get in terracotta or white, and you don't need a kiln. It dries at room temperature in a few days. (Plastiroc is made by Omyacolor.)

Finally, I painted it using water colour paints...

I'm still not sure whether I like the gold parts, maybe I'll paint over them. What do you think?

Well, that's my first attempt at a dragon. If you have made any dragons, email me a photo (JPEG, less than 100K if poss.)
